As the region’s only semi-professional soccer team, Greenville United will compete this fall in the U.S. Open Cup Open Division Qualifying Rounds. With matches set to begin in September, the Bucks will aim to secure one of the sixteen coveted remaining spots in the 2026 Open Cup.

“We are very excited about this new opportunity,” said Club President Michael McCarren. “This tournament is special because it gives Greenville United the chance to showcase our community on a national stage and face quality opponents from across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.”

Founded in 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and one of the longest-running tournaments in the world. It brings together clubs from every level of the American soccer pyramid, from local amateur sides to Major League Soccer, giving teams like Greenville United the rare chance to face top-flight professional opponents in a competitive setting.

“It’s a huge achievement for Greenville United to be accepted into the U.S. Open Cup,” said Head Coach Aaron Okwei. “This nationwide tournament brings together some of the best in U.S. Soccer, and it’s an incredible opportunity to represent eastern North Carolina on a national stage.”

The first match window is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, 2025. Opponents will be determined through a regional draw, which will be announced in the coming weeks. Greenville United is eligible to host each match in the Qualifying Rounds.
