Greenville United FC, anchored by a pair of recent victories, will host Johnston County FC of Selma, North Carolina at John Paul II Catholic High School Stadium on Saturday, May 3 as a final test before the National Premier Soccer League season begins.
Greenville United opened the season with a dominant 4-1 victory over NC Ballers FC of Charlotte. Modou “Bobby” Faye scored a brace on his GUFC debut with two goals, while Daniel “Lalas” Ayertey and Babacar Fall added one goal each in a display of offensive firepower.
In their most recent outing, Greenville United defeated Mint Hill FC of the United Premier Soccer League 1-0. After controlling possession for much of the contest, the Bucks broke through in the 63rd minute when Manny Duran found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Luis Zuniga earned his first clean sheet of his Greenville United career.
“The team has been working hard, and it’s showing on the field,” says Head Coach Aaron Okwei. “We have high standards at Greenville United, and this group is really building something the whole city can be proud of.”
The Bucks will be back at John Paul II Catholic High School Stadium on Saturday, May 3 against a newly-formed Johnston County FC of Selma, North Carolina. The match doubles as ECU Night, with all East Carolina University students admitted free with a valid OneCard as a break from studying exams and University employees will be entry for $5 with their OneCard at the gate. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
